Carla Sealey is an applied artist who started working with glass in 2005. She works from one of the Almshouse studios at Artworks MK in Milton Keynes where she makes cast and fused glass.

Using kiln forming techniques she produces pieces that explore the boundaries that define the social, cultural and spiritual spaces we occupy.

‘I am constantly fascinated, cannot help but probe, the boundaries that make each of us individual. The boundaries that others construct for us whether social, cultural or physical are so often implicit rather than explicit. I try to use glass as a means of revealing, exploring, hopefully deconstructing those implicit boundaries.

As an applied artist I am constantly trying to make glass do things in the kiln that any properly trained glass artist knows can’t or shouldn’t be done. In my more optimistic moments I call this pushing the boundaries of kiln forming techniques. Mostly I swear a lot and wish that I had stuck to textiles or jewellery.’
